James and I have had a
busy year here on “The Broke 4" homestead. Our three grandchildren keep us
running the roads, and trust us, an eleven year old, a two and a half year old
and a two year old can really keep you busy. We wouldn’t have it any other way thou
because of the joy and love they fill our hearts with. It is worth every
minute.
We spent the first
nine months this year trying to find a new Roping horse and there were a lot of
road bumps doing so, but God showed us that we had to be patient and he finally
found my cowboy a new horse to replace the one he had for so many years. We had
our home remodeled some with new wood floors throughout and Barn red tin
replaced the old siding. Our age caught up with us this year. James went on
Medicare and I on Social Security. Our minds tell us we’re young while our
bodies are getting old.
It’s the end of the year now and time to slow down. The Christmas
tree is all decorated, the presents all wrapped. The weather is even
getting colder. It’s beginning to look a lot like a Cowboy Christmas.
The
Christmas Cow
You’ve heard the tale of
Frosty
And the Little Drummer Boy
All those other Christmas
stories
That bring folks cheer and
joy
What I’m gonna tell you
next
May seem a little strange
It happened late one
Christmas night Cowboy Christmas Ball
Come from somewhere down
the draw
We could hear a cow a
bawlin’
Like she was sure ‘nuff on
the fight
Crashin’ brush an’bells a
ringin’
We knew somethin’ wasn’t
right
We spurred our mounts on
towards the noise
Arriving just in the
“Nick” o’ time
To watch that cow tree
Santa Claus…
Friends, that o[‘ fat boy
can climb
When we finally finished
laughin’
And dried our eyes where
we could see
We roped that hide an’
tied her down
Then helped Santa git out
of the tree
Though his suit was ripped
an’ snagged
He was none the worse the
waer
Once he caught his breath
an’ recomposed
He told of what had
happened there
Said one of the tugs had
pulled apart
So, he had to land the
sleigh
Figured it wouldn’t take
too long to fix
Then he’d be on his merry
way
He’d just unhitched the reindeer
When this wild-eyed cow
appeared
She was hookin’ everything
in sight
And he was next he feared
She spooked the team and they
left the scene
Then she horned in on the
sleigh
A fightin’ wreaths an’
Christmas trees
But, Pere Noel (pardon my
French),
Knew she’d be comin’ his way
He saw the chance, to miss
her dance
So, he took off for a low
hangin’ limb
But she’s in hot pursuit of
that bright red suit
And his odds are gettin’ real
slim
Somehow, he escaped that
terrible fate
And that’s when we come
ridin’ in
He said y’all can bet, that I
won’t forget
Then gave us a wink and a
grin
Well his reindeer came back ,
and we hitched up his hack
After the harness repair
Then we turned around, to
free that cow from the ground
But when we looked…that o[‘
snake wasn’t there
So I picked up my string, and
we rode back to bring
Sants’s hat with the hole
from her horn
He said keep it y’all, hang
it up on the wall
I got more and besides that
one is torn
It sure was a sight when
those reindeer took flight
Santa thanked us, and we said
our goodbyes
We rode back to camp and when
we lit the lamp
We sure had a great big
surprise
Right there in the floor,
when we walked in the door
Was the ol’ cows hide made
into a rug
And up there on the wall,
mounted over the hall
Was the Christmas cow’s head…
Wearin’ them bells…and held
in place by a broken ol’ tug

To all our family and friends, our prayer is that every family will have a blessed Christmas this year. Hug those you love a little tighter, laugh more, and watch the sun set and rise together, and pray together as a family. Don't forget to give thanks to God and remember the reason behind Christmas...
Merry Christmas from The Hall's, James & Betty
