Red Steagall's Cowboy Gathering
at the Fort Worth Stockyards and this year we shared it with our friends Gary and Patsy on October 25 - 27. Red Steagall has been hosting this event since 1991 at the Fort Worth, Texas Historical Stockyards.
There is so much to see and trying to be in so many places planed for the weekend is over whelming. There is a ranch rodeo each night, chuck wagon cook off, western swing dances, cowboy poetry, western shopping galore, Long Horn cattle drive, and so much more, not to mention the eating. We have been to this event thirteen times throughout the years. A Cowboy Gathering is a whole different world! Its like stepping back in the cowboy era.
This year while shopping in the Cowboy trappings show I stopped at a booth called "Moonstruck Leathers", artfully concealed carry purses and gun holsters. As I was chatting with the owners and creators, Don and Becky Moon, we found out we had something more in common than the Cowboy gathering. Don recognized me and asked if I had ever been on a healthy eating web site. What a small world! Ended up that we both knew each other as members on NutriMirror which is a lifetime weight control through nutritional balance.
When the evening sun goes down we attended the ranch rodeo hosted by Red Steagall himself. A Ranch Rodeo is not just any Rodeo. Authentic ranch cowboys competed in events that have aspects of traditional ranch work. Ranch Vet, Team Sorting, Calf Branding, Bronc Riding and Wild Cow Milking are all in a days work for these cowboys and the participants this year

The Texas Longhorn and the American cowboy are two of the most enduring symbols of the Old West. They're a big reason why Fort Worth earned the nickname "Cowtown." And they formed the core of the great cattle drives of the late nineteenth century. Now, the romance and mystique of cowboys and cattle drives returns to Fort Worth with The Herd - Texas Longhorns driven by genuine Texas cowhands - offering an unforgettable glimpse into the past. You'll hear the jingle of spurs, the cattle bawling, and the rhythm of the hoof beats. As The Herd passes, a bygone era comes to life before your eyes.
